The RoleWe are currently recruiting for a new Legal Counsel to work within our Legal Team.
The purpose of this role is to provide legal support, and to assist in the provision of oversight of legal risk, to the Bank and its product and support teams. There will be a particular focus on providing support to non-transactional matters impacting the organisation including regulatory matters (including Freedom of Information, data and information sharing and advising on internal and external policies). This role will also support the activities of the wider Legal and Governance team.
To be considered for this role you will already have solid post qualification experience with an embedded knowledge and experience in one or more of corporate, commercial, financial regulation/funds and finance.
You will have good technical skills with knowledge of, or a willingness and a capability to learn, a range of products and issues and risks impacting a complex, state-owned financial services organisation.You will also have knowledge of one or more of Subsidy Control, State aid and/or financial regulation, public law, freedom of information, data protection, judicial review or procurement law.
Prior experience of areas of law applicable to public sector (eg public law, freedom of information, judicial review) and more widely (e.g. data protection) would be highly desirable as would experience of managing external counsel and of working in the legal department of a central government department, an arms length body or other public sector body.Experience of managing legal challenge and stakeholder/supplier complaints would also be a distinct advantage.
